The Japanese bathing culture is a true experience, and is usually an almost essential element of a visit to Japan. A good soak in an ‘Onsen’, or (natural) hotspring, is a popular way to relax. A visit to an Onsen in Japan, then, is comparable to a day of luxurious pampering at a spa, that is often combined with a stay in a stylish ‘Ryokan’ (traditional Japanese style luxury accommodation). Depending on which Onsen you visit, the hotspring waters will be ascribed various specific properties, anything from being able to heal physical aches and pains to doing wonders for the skin.
The lesser known alternative to an Onsen are the ‘Sento’: simple public bathhouses that use ‘normal’ water, and were traditionally used regularly by those who did not (yet) have a bath at home.
So how does it work, this Japanese style bathing? With this tour you won’t just learn everything about Onsen and Sento, but also which ones are worth a visit, the bath-etiquette, tips & tricks, and which places are tattoo-friendly. This tour is not only informative, it is also a great tool in preparation for your next Japan-trip!
